Butler hopes to slow down Wright State

Jan 8, 2009 - 11:30 AM Wright State (8-7) at No. 20 Butler (12-1), 7:00 p.m. EST

INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- No. 20 Butler will try and snap Wright State's six-game winning streak when the teams meet in a Horizon League contest on Thursday.

The two-time defending Horizon League champions, the Bulldogs (12-1, 3-0 Horizon) come in winners of four straight after Saturday's 75-62 victory against Valparaiso.

Butler is going against what has been a nemesis in recent years. The teams have split the regular-season meetings each of the past three campaigns with Wright State knocking off Butler for the league tournament title in 2007.

Matt Howard is averaging 14 points and 6.8 rebounds to lead Butler, which is 6-0 at home this season.

Wright State (8-7, 2-2) dropped its first two league games in December but has bounced back to climb over .500 for the first time.

The Raiders posted a 60-59 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday and have surrendered 70 points or more just twice. Todd Brown made the go-ahead free throw with 39 seconds to play.

Cory Cooperwood leads the team in scoring at 10.7 points per game.
