Michigan hopes to snap skid at Illinois

Jan 14, 2009 - 11:28 AM No. 24 Michigan (13-3) at Illinois (14-2), 8:30 p.m. EST

CHAMPAIGN, Illinois (Ticker) -- Michigan's return to the Top 25 rankings may be a short one unless it can snap a long losing streak at Illinois.

The 24th-ranked Wolverines will try and snap an 11-game skid in Champaign when the Big Ten Conference teams meet on Wednesday.

Michigan (13-3, 3-1 Big Ten) has been a big surprise under second-year coach John Beilein, having already surpassed last season's win total of 10.

Manny Harris scored 18 points as Michigan won its third straight game, 64-49 over Iowa on Sunday. Harris is averaging 18.6 points per game this season.

Illinois (14-2, 2-1) is coming off a 76-45 pounding of Indiana on Sunday.

Trent Meacham scored 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the arc in the win and leads a balanced attack at 12.3 per game.

The Wolverines defeated the Fighting Illini, 74-64, in Ann Arbor on January 4 - snapping Illinois' seven-game winning streak.
