Griffin not the only one helping Oklahoma to wins

Jan 17, 2009 - 11:55 AM No. 5 Oklahoma (16-1) at Texas A&M (15-2) 2:00 p.m. EST

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- If there were any doubt that Oklahoma is the team to beat in the Big 12, the Sooners are dispatching those claims with every passing victory.

Fifth-ranked Oklahoma goes for its fifth straight win on Saturday when they visit Texas A&M.

While Player-of-the Year candidate Blake Griffin, who leads the team in scoring (22.4 points) and rebounding (13.8 boards), has been the biggest reason for the Sooners' success, they proved during their last game that they can claim victories from the outside.

Griffin had 20 points and 10 boards, but it was a trio of guards who stole the show during Oklahoma's 78-63 victory over 11th ranked Texas on Monday.

Freshman Willie Warren scored 17 points, Tony Crocker had 16 and Austin Johnson added 15 for the Sooners (16-1, 2-0 Big 12), who held the Longhorns to 34 percent shooting (23-of-68) for the contest.

"We personally, as a team, feel that people kind of disrespect us a little bit with the way they talk about our guards and the way they talk about our post defense and anything like that," Griffin said.

Oklahoma will need another balanced attack against the Aggies (15-2, 1-1), who are coming off an impressive 84-73 victory over No. 21 Baylor on Wednesday.

Chinemelu Elonu had 17 points and 16 rebounds and Bryan Davis also scored 17 as Texas A&M improved to 11-0 at home this campaign.
