Marquette hoping to remain perfect in Big East

Jan 24, 2009 - 11:32 AM DePaul (8-11) at No. 10 Marquette (16-2), 2:00 pm EST

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Marquette will try to continue its surprisingly perfect start to Big East Conference play against the league's worst team.

Wesley Matthews and the 10th-ranked Golden Eagles seek their ninth consecutive victory when they meet DePaul on Saturday.

Matthews chipped in 22 points last Saturday as Marquette used a big second half to streak past Providence, 91-82. The senior guard is averaging 19.1 points and 5.5 rebounds.

Lazar Hayward and Jerel McNeal scored 25 points apiece for the Golden Eagles (16-2, 5-0 Big East), who are tied with Louisville atop the conference standings.

The Blue Demons (8-11, 0-6) have lost their last six contests - all against conference foes.

Dar Tucker collected 19 points during Tuesday's 70-61 loss to South Florida.
