Baylor hoping to end Oklahoma's domination

Jan 24, 2009 - 11:31 AM No. 23 Baylor (15-3) at No. 5 Oklahoma (18-1)

NORMAN, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Baylor has been close to ending its epic losing streak to Oklahoma in recent meetings, but has been unable to get over the hump.

The 23rd-ranked Bears try to finally end a 30-year drought against the No. 5 Sooners when the teams meet on Saturday.

Baylor (15-3, 3-1 Big 12) has lost 28 straight meetings with Oklahoma dating to a 75-67 victory in 1978. But, the Sooners have won each of the last three games by a combined 11 points after winning the previous four contests by an average of 35 points.

The Bears have particularly struggled on the road in the series, dropping 11 of 12 meetings by double digits at the Lloyd Noble Center until their last game here last February 19.

Following a four-point play by Tony Crocker that gave Oklahoma a one-point lead with 7.3 seconds left to play in overtime, Curtis Jerrells missed a pair of free throws on the ensuing possession as Baylor dropped a 92-91 decision.

Jerrells, the team's leading scorer at 17.1 points per game, will need a big performance against the Sooners (18-1, 4-0), who have won six straight and have rarely been challenged this season.

Since suffering a 96-88 setback to Arkansas on December 30, Oklahoma has forged four double- digit victories, including a 72-61 victory over Nebraska on Wednesday.
