Washington faces UCLA for Pac-10 lead

Jan 24, 2009 - 11:31 AM No. 11 UCLA (15-3) at Washington (14-4), 4:00 pm EST

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Washington hopes to prove its more than just up-and-coming on Saturday.

The surprising Huskies will look to take over sole possession of first place in the Pac-10 Conference when they face 11th-ranked UCLA.

The Bruins (15-3, 5-1 Pac-10) have been the class of the league over the last three seasons, collecting the conference title and appearing in the Final Four in each of those campaigns.

Washington (14-4, 5-1) is a team on the rise. Currently on a three-game winning streak, the Huskies are hoping to challenge UCLA for the crown this season.

Senior Jon Brockman, who is averaging 15.1 points and a team-high 10.8 rebounds on the campaign, had a season-low four points and did not make a field goal in Thursday's 78-73 victory to USC.

With their best player having an off-night, the Huskies relied on Justin Dentmon, who scored 22 points as Washington won for the 12th time in 13 contests.

Darren Collison scored six of his eight points in the final five minutes as UCLA survived the loss of another comfortable lead to squeak out a 61-59 victory over Washington State on Thursday.

The Bruins had coughed up an 11-point lead against then-No. 15 Arizona State on Saturday by failing to record a point over the final 8:06 of regulation before losing in overtime.
