New No. 1 Duke visits Wake Forest

Jan 28, 2009 - 11:23 AM No. 1 Duke (18-1) at No. 4 Wake Forest (16-1), 7:00 p.m. EST

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Duke is about to find out how tough it is to be No. 1. Wake Forest already knows the feeling.

In its first contest as the top-ranked team this season, the Blue Devils visit the fourth-ranked Demon Deacons in an Atlantic Coast Conference showdown on Wednesday.

Duke (18-1, 5-0 ACC) jumped up one spot to become the fourth top ranked team in the coaches' poll this season, one week after former No. 1 Wake Forest (16-1, 3-1) fell to Virginia Tech.

The Blue Devils have won 10 straight games, including an 85-44 rout of Maryland on Saturday. Gerald Henderson had 17 points in the win.

Kyle Singler is averaging 16.5 points and 8.1 rebounds to lead Duke, which is allowing a conference-low 59.5 points per game.

Wake Forest, which is scoring 84.2 points per contest, dropped a 79-71 contest at home to Virginia Tech last Wednesday.

Jeff Teague scored 23 points in the loss and leads the Demon Deacons in scoring at 21.5 per game.
