Memphis aims to continue domination of Conference USA

Jan 28, 2009 - 11:23 AM No. 19 Memphis (16-3) at East Carolina (10-8), 7:00 p.m. EST

GREENVILLE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- After picking up its biggest non-conference win of the season, No. 19 Memphis looks to pick up where it left off in Conference USA when it visits East Carolina on Wednesday.

The Tigers (16-3, 5-0 C-USA) are coming off a 54-52 victory at intra-state rival Tennessee on Saturday, their 10th consecutive win.

Freshman Tyreke Evans scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half as Memphis won despite its lowest offensive output of the season.

The Tigers return to conference play, where it has dominated over the past three-plus seasons, winning 47 consecutive games.

East Carolina (10-8, 2-3) does not pose a threat to ending that streak, although the Pirates are coming off an 80-74 victory at Southern Methodist on Saturday.

Sam Hinnant is averaging 15.1 points to lead the Pirates, who have won two of their past nine games.
