Xavier aims to stay perfect in Atlantic 10

Jan 28, 2009 - 11:22 AM Charlotte (6-12) at No. 10 Xavier (17-2) 7:30 p.m. EST

CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- After registering an impressive non-conference win last week, 10th-ranked Xavier returns home to host Charlotte on Wednesday looking to remain perfect in Atlantic 10 play.

The Musketeers (17-2, 5-0 A-10) are coming off an 80-70 win at Louisiana State on Saturday, becoming the first team to win on the Tigers' home court this season.

Derrick Brown had 22 points and nine rebounds and B.J. Raymond scored 21 for Xavier, which snapped LSU's 17-game home winning streak.

Xavier will look to pick up where it left off in conference play. The Musketeers have won four of five A-10 contests by at least 20 points, including a pair of 20-point wins in their last two against La Salle and St. Bonaventure.

Brown leads the team with 14.4 points per game, while Raymond averages 12.2 for the Musketeers, who open a three-game homestand against the 49ers.

Charlotte (6-12, 1-4) was unable to build off its first conference win, shooting just 29 percent (17-of-59) in an 80-53 beatdown at the hands of Temple on Saturday.

The 49ers beat Massachusetts, 69-64, last Wednesday but trailed by 26 at halftime against the Owls. Lamont Mack, who is the team's only player averaging in double figures at 13.8 points, had 12 points on 3-of-15 shooting.
