North Carolina hopes to continue winning ways vs. Florida State

Jan 28, 2009 - 11:22 AM No. 6 North Carolina (17-2) at Florida State (16-4) 9:00 p.m. EST

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Ticker) -- Outside of a two-game lapse to start Atlantic Coast Conference play, North Carolina has been every bit of the preseason favorite it was tabbed as.

The sixth-ranked Tar Heels will look to continue their recent trend of dominance when they visit Florida State on Wednesday.

Following its shocking 0-2 start to conference play with losses to Boston College and Wake Forest, North Carolina (17-2, 3-2 ACC) has reeled off three straight blowout wins, including a dominant second-half performance in a 94-70 win over then-No. 9 Clemson last Wednesday.

Leading 45-40 at halftime, the Tar Heels blitzed the Tigers after the break. Wayne Ellington led the way with 25 points and Tyler Hansbrough added 20 and 10 rebounds.

It has been nearly five years since the Seminoles have beaten the Tar Heels, who have won nine straight over their ACC foe. Florida State last won on January 22, 2004.

Florida State (16-4, 3-2) has won three of its last four, including a 73-62 victory at Virginia on Saturday. Toney Douglas led the way with 21 points as the Seminoles raced out to a 30-16 halftime lead.

Douglas is their lone player averaging double figures at 19.6 per game. The senior has struggled against UNC in his career, however, averaging just 11.4 points per game and shooting 24 percent from the field.
