Abrams eyes Big 12 record vs. Kansas State

Jan 31, 2009 - 11:25 AM Kansas State (13-7) at No. 12 Texas (15-4) 4:00 p.m. EST

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- A.J. Abrams' long-range ability is about to solidify his place in the Big 12 record books.

Abrams and 12th-ranked Texas go for their fourth straight win on Saturday when they host Kansas State.

The senior guard, Abrams leads the Longhorns (15-4, 4-1 Big 12) in scoring, averaging 17 points per game, and recorded four of his 19 points in the final two minutes on Tuesday as Texas staved off Baylor, 78-72, to earn its fourth win in five games.

Abrams hit 3-of-6 shots from the arc against Baylor, equaling the Big 12 mark for 3-point shots with the 338th of his career. He is tied with Jeff Boschee, who played at Kansas from 1999-2002.

He should surpass that record against the Wildcats (13-7, 2-4), who are coming off back-to-back victories following four straight losses.

Denis Clemente scored all of his 15 points after halftime, helping Kansas State snap its slide with a two-point overtime victory against Colorado last Saturday before Jacob Pullen poured in 23 points and Jamar Samuels added 18 during an 88-72 rout over Missouri on Wednesday.
