Duke hopes to rebound against Virginia

Feb 1, 2009 - 12:08 PM Virginia (7-9) at No. 1 Duke (18-2), 2:00 p.m. EST

DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Duke's reign at the top of the rankings likely will not last long.

The top-ranked Blue Devils will try and rebound from a loss when they host Virginia in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup on Sunday.

The fourth team to be ranked at No. 1 this season, Duke (18-2, 5-1 ACC) lost its first game in the top spot in heartbreaking fashion on Wednesday.

James Johnson scored the game-winning layup off an inbounds play with eight-tenths of a second left, lifting fourth-ranked Wake Forest to a 70-68 victory.

Kyle Singler scored 22 points and Gerald Henderson had 20 in the loss for the Blue Devils, who shot 33 percent (22-of-66), including 4-of-22 from the arc. The setback snapped a 10-game winning streak.

Duke will try and get back on track against Virginia (7-9, 1-4), which has lost four straight and nine of 13.

Freshman Sylven Landesberg is averaging 17.1 points and 6.2 rebounds to pace the Cavaliers, who have not played since a 73-62 setback to Florida State on January 24. Landesberg had 24 points in defeat.
