Butler aims to break Horizon League record

Feb 2, 2009 - 7:14 PM No. 11 Butler (19-1) at Wisconsin-Green Bay (17-6), 8:00 p.m. EST

Butler can set a new Horizon League record with one more victory. It would also put the Bulldogs in prime position for their third straight league title.

No. 11 Butler goes for its 12th straight win when it visits Wisconsin-Green Bay on Monday.

The Bulldogs (19-1, 10-0 Horizon) have won 21 straight league games, which matches the conference record.

Freshman Gordon Hayward scored 18 points as Butler struggled to post a 59-51 victory over Valparaiso on Friday. The Bulldogs used an 11-0 run to take a 52-43 lead with 2:15 left.

The Bulldogs can further distance itself from the rest of the field as Green Bay (17-6, 9-2) sits in second place of the league.

The Phoenix have won three straight and seven of their last eight, including an 87-68 triumph over Loyola-Illinois on Saturday.

Troy Cotton made seven 3-pointers and scored 25 points to lead Green Bay in the win. Ryan Tillema is averaging a team-best 16.9 points per game.

Butler, which is opening a three-game road trip, won the first meeting, 68-59.
