Michigan State aims to snap home skid vs. Minnesota

Feb 4, 2009 - 11:12 AM No. 19 Minnesota (18-3) at No. 14 Michigan State (17-4) 8:30 p.m. EST

EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- While boasting a perfect road mark in the Big Ten this season, Michigan State has endured some unusually tough times at the Breslin Center lately.

The 14th-ranked Spartans look to avoid a three-game home losing streak when No. 19 Minnesota visits on Wednesday.

Michigan State (17-4, 7-2 Big Ten) has dropped consecutive contests in East Lansing following a 28-game home winning streak. The Spartans suffered a 70-63 setback to Northwestern on January 21 and, after bouncing back with two straight road wins, lost to Penn State, 72-68 on Sunday.

Kalin Lucas scored 23 points and Goran Suton and Chris Allen added 11 points each, but the Nittany Lions knocked down 10-of-20 attempts from behind the arc to pull the upset.

Minnesota (18-3, 6-3) will be in search of its first win in East Lansing since the 1989-90 season. It recorded a pair of wins in the mid-1990s that were during the vacated years due to NCAA violations.

The Golden Gophers are coming off a dominant defensive performance over Illinois that lifted them to a 59-36 win, their first in 20 tries against the Illini.

Lawrence Westbrook scored 15 points, however it was the defensive effort that limited Illinois to a Big Ten season-low 36 points that clinched the win.

In a meeting earlier this season, Lucas scored 24 points to lead the Spartans to a 70-58 win.
