Memphis goes for 50th straight C-USA win

Feb 4, 2009 - 11:12 AM No. 15 Memphis (18-3) at Southern Methodist (6-13) 9:00 p.m. EST

DALLAS (Ticker) -- Memphis' lengthy Conference USA winning streak has hit little resistance since a buzzer-beating win in mid-January.

That trend figures to continue Wednesday when the 15th-ranked Tigers go for their 50th straight league victory in a visit to Southern Methodist.

Antonio Anderson's last-second layup handed Memphis a dramatic 55-54 over Tulsa on January 13. In their next four conference games, the Tigers have not needed similar late-game heroics to extend the streak.

Memphis (18-3, 7-0 C-USA) has won its last four league contests by more than 19.0 points per game, including a well-balanced scoring attack in a 83-68 win over Houston Saturday.

Robert Dozier led five players in double figures with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Doneal Mack added 18.

Freshman Tyreke Evans, who leads the Tigers with 16.3 points per game, contributed 10 points, seven boards and five assists as Memphis pulled away from the Cougars.

Southern Methodist (6-13, 1-6) has lost four straight and sits in last place in the league.

Derek Williams shot just 5-of-17 from the field for 15 points in a 64-55 loss on Saturday. The Mustangs shot 35 percent (19-of-55) for the game and average only 63.5 points per contest.
