UCLA hopes to cool off rival USC

Feb 4, 2009 - 11:11 AM USC (15-6) at No. 12 UCLA (17-4), 10:30 p.m. EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Coming off its most lopsided conference win of the season, UCLA cannot afford any letdown.

The 12th-ranked Bruins look to stay in first place in the Pac-10 Conference when they host Southern California on Wednesday.

UCLA (17-4, 7-2 Pac-10) has won back-to-back games, including a 97-63 rout of Stanford on Saturday.

Darren Collison, freshman Jrue Holiday and Alfred Aboya each scored 15 points in the victory for UCLA, which is tied with Washington (7-2) atop the Pac-10 standings. Collison is averaging a team-best 14.6 points per game.

USC (15-6, 6-3) is a game back of UCLA and has won three straight games and five of six.

Freshman DeMar DeRozan scored 19 points in the Trojans' latest win, a 73-62 victory over California.

Dwight Lewis leads USC in scoring at 15.2 points per game and Taj Gibson is averaging 14.9 and a team-high 10.2 rebounds.

UCLA won the first meeting, 64-60, on January 11.
