Wake Forest hopes to bounce back against reeling Miami

Feb 4, 2009 - 11:11 AM No. 6 Wake Forest (17-2) at Miami-FL (14-7) 7:30 p.m. EST

CORAL GABLES, Florida (Ticker) -- Wake Forest is coming off a heartbreaking loss. Miami knows that feeling as well as anyone.

The teams will each look to rebound from tough losses when they meet in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup on Wednesday.

The sixth-ranked Demon Deacons (17-2, 4-2 ACC) suffered their second setback of the season at Georgia Tech on Saturday, 76-74. Iman Shumpert's jumper with one second left gave the Yellow Jackets the upset for their first conference win of the season.

Wake Forest, which was held scoreless for nearly the final two minutes, was led by the 17 points, 11 rebounds and five steals from Al-Farouq Aminu. Jeff Teague added 16 points and James Johnson collected 13 points, seven boards and six assists.

The Demon Deacons hope to continue the struggles for the Hurricanes, who have lost three straight. Each loss has come by five points or less and two were decided in overtime.

After dropping contests to Virginia Tech and North Carolina State in the extra session, Miami (14-7, 3-5) was unable to overcome a second-half deficit, losing to Maryland, 73-68, on Saturday.

Jack McClinton filled the stat sheet with 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists but the Hurricanes lost the turnover battle, 15-7, to drop to ninth place in the ACC.

This begins a key stretch for the Hurricanes, who probably need a few more impressive wins to earn an NCAA Tournament berth. Miami visits No. 3 Duke on Saturday before hosting fourth-ranked North Carolina February 15.
