Villanova eyes fourth straight win
Feb 4, 2009 - 11:11 AM No. 16 Villanova (17-4) at Providence (14-7), 8:00 p.m. ESTPROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Ticker) -- Villanova hopes to continue its rise through the Big East Conference standings when it visits Providence on Wednesday.
After a slow start in conference play, the 16th-ranked Wildcats (17-4, 5-3 Big East) have won three straight games, including Sunday's 71-50 victory against Cincinnati.
Dante Cunningham had 21 points and eight rebounds in the win for Villanova, which outscored Cincinnati, 41-21, in the second half. Cunningham is averaging 16.7 points to lead the Wildcats.
Providence (14-7, 6-3) had its three-game winning streak snapped at Connecticut on Saturday, falling 94-61.
Randall Hanke scored 16 points off the bench to lead the Friars, who were outscored, 56-27, in the second half. Weyinmi Efejuku leads four players in double figures at 13 points per game.
Villanova has won the last five meetings.
