Ellington, UNC look to continue rolling

Feb 7, 2009 - 12:57 PM Virginia (7-11) at No. 4 North Carolina (20-2), 4:00 p.m. EST

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- If there were any knock earlier in the season on North Carolina's fast-paced offense, it was that it was struggling from the outside. Wayne Ellington has eliminated that weakness.

The fourth-ranked Tar Heels go for their seventh straight win when they host struggling Virginia on Saturday.

Ellington made seven of North Carolina's season-high 16 3-pointers as the Tar Heels cruised past Maryland on Tuesday, 108-91. The junior netted 34 points and is averaging 21.6 over his last five games.

The Atlantic Coast Conference's third all-time scorer, Tyler Hansbrough is averaging 22.4 points per game to lead the Tar Heels (20-2, 6-2 ACC), who could get caught looking ahead to Wednesday when they visit No. 3 Duke.

Losers of six straight, Virginia (7-11, 1-6) should not pose much of a threat.

The Cavaliers fell to Boston College, 80-70, on Wednesday. Freshman Sylven Landesberg scored a season-high 32 points and is averaging a team-high 18 points per game.

North Carolina ranks second in the nation in scoring at 93.1 points per game.
