Texas looks to get back on track at Nebrasksa

Feb 7, 2009 - 12:55 PM No. 17 Texas (15-6) at Nebraska (14-7) 2:00 p.m. EST

LINCOLN, Nebraska (Ticker) -- A two-game slide has dropped Texas to the middle of the pack in the Big 12 standings, but a visit to Nebraska may help heal its wounds.

The 17th-ranked Longhorns will aim for their eighth straight win over the Cornhuskers when the teams meet on Saturday.

Pegged just behind Oklahoma in the preseason coaches' poll, Texas (15-6, 4-3 Big 12) lost back-to-back home games last week for the first time since February 11-20, 2002 to slide into fourth place in the conference.

After an 85-81 setback against Kansas State last Saturday, the Longhorns were unable to right the ship Wednesday and lost to a red-hot Missouri team, 69-65. Dexter Pittman set a career-high with 25 points but the Tigers rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to leapfrog the Longhorns in the standings.

A.J. Abrams, who leads Texas at 16.6 points per game, is averaging just 12.3 points and converting only 30 percent (21-of-71) from 3-point range in his last nine games.

Nebraska (14-7, 4-4) is tied for sixth in the crowded midsection of the Big 12 and has won two straight following a stretch of four losses in five games.

Ryan Anderson and Steve Harley scored 12 points apiece as the Cornhuskers escaped Boulder with a 55-53 victory in a defensive battle against Colorado on Wednesday.
