Notre Dame hoping change of scenery will end slide

Feb 7, 2009 - 12:53 PM Notre Dame (12-9) at No. 12 UCLA (18-4) 1:00 p.m. EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Perhaps a trip outside the Big East will remedy Notre Dame's problems.

The Fighting Irish try to break a six-game losing streak on Saturday when they visit 12th-ranked UCLA.

Notre Dame has been in a tailspin since dropping an 87-73 overtime decision to then-No. 20 Louisville on January 12 - the first of six straight setbacks to conference opponents.

Entering the season as what seemed like a lock to earn an NCAA Tournament bid, the Fighting Irish find themselves on the bubble after falling to 12th place in the Big East.

Notre Dame sunk to a new low during its last game, suffering a 93-83 loss to Cincinnati. A once-potent, long-range attack was just 3-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc as sharp-shooter Kyle McAlarney missed all five of his 3-pointers.

While a change of scenery may help the Fighting Irish, another difficult opponent will not.

The Bruins have won each of their last three games in impressive fashion, starting with an 81-66 victory over California on January 29.

Following a 34-point drubbing of Stanford, UCLA posted a 76-60 triumph over rival Southern California on Wednesday.
