Memphis gunning for another win vs. Tulsa

Feb 11, 2009 - 11:35 AM Tulsa (17-7) at No. 10 Memphis (20-3) 8:00 p.m. EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- A return to Conference USA will only help Memphis continue its winning ways.

The 10th-ranked Tigers go for their 15th straight win on Wednesday when they host Tulsa.

Memphis (20-3, 8-0 Conference USA) has been unstoppable since suffering a seven-point setback to then-No. 11 Syracuse on December 20, winning each of its next 14 games, including a dominant 68-50 victory over then-No. 18 Gonzaga on Saturday.

Freshman Tyreke Evans scored 22 points and Robert Dozier had 18 and 10 rebounds for the Tigers, who forced the Bulldogs into 15 turnovers and forged a 39-25 advantage in rebounds while a late flurry boosted Gonzaga's shooting percentage to 37 percent (18-of-49).

"I told (Gonzaga coach) Mark (Few), that's as good as we can play," Memphis coach John Calipari said. "We can't play much better than we did tonight, on both sides of the ball."

Calipari will be looking for a similar performance against Tulsa when his team tries to earn its 51st consecutive victory over Conference USA opponents.

The Golden Hurricane (17-7, 7-2), who are 1 1/2 games behind the Tigers in the conference standings, have won five straight, including a 76-65 victory over Texas-El Paso on Saturday.

Jerome Jordan scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Tulsa limited UTEP to 30 percent (19-of-63) shooting.
