Illinois hopes to end road woes

Feb 12, 2009 - 11:21 AM No. 20 Illinois (19-5) at Northwestern (13-8), 9:00 p.m. EST

EVANSTON, Illinois (Ticker) -- Winning at home has not been much of a problem for Illinois. The road, however, is another story.

The 20th-ranked Fighting Illini hope to get a rare road win on Thursday when they visit Northwestern.

Tied for second place in the Big Ten Conference, Illinois (19-5, 7-4 Big Ten) is 14-1 at home but has dropped four straight road games - three by double digits.

Illinois' offense has especially struggled on the road, totaling 36 points in a loss at Minnesota on January 29 before managing 50 in a 13-point defeat at Wisconsin last Thursday.

Mike Davis scored 14 points and Demetri McCamey added 13 as the Fighting Illini defeated Purdue, 66-48, in a home game on Sunday.

Northwestern (13-8, 4-6), which has won four straight home games, had its three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 56-51 setback at Iowa.

Craig Moore is averaging 15.3 points and Kevin Coble is scoring 15.2 per contest to lead the Wildcats.
