UCLA looks for revenge against Arizona State

Feb 12, 2009 - 11:22 AM No. 6 UCLA (19-4) at No. 18 Arizona St. (18-5) 9:00 p.m. EST

TEMPE, Arizona (Ticker) -- UCLA has been dominating opponents of late, looking nothing like the team that couldn't find the bucket down the stretch against Arizona State.

The sixth-ranked Bruins will be looking to run their winning streak to five when they face the 18th-ranked Sun Devils on Thursday.

After collapsing down the stretch the last time the teams met, UCLA (19-4, 8-2 Pac-10) has won five of six, including four straight. The Bruins have outscored their last four opponents by an average of nearly 23 points while shooting 55 percent from the floor.

UCLA routed Notre Dame on Saturday, 89-63, holding the Irish below 40 percent (25-of-63) from the field. Alfred Aboya scored 19 points and Darren Collison added 17 for the Bruins.

That level of play was absent on January 17, when the Bruins managed one field goal over a 13-minute stretch in the second half and overtime before falling to the Sun Devils, 61-58. The loss snapped a 15-game home winning streak.

James Harden led Arizona State (18-5, 7-4) with 24 points in that game and leads the Pac-10 in scoring at 21.9 per game.

The sophomore guard is coming off one of his weakest showings of the season, scoring nine points on 2-of-9 shooting as the Sun Devils earned an ugly, 49-38, win over Oregon State on Saturday.

UCLA could be without forward Drew Gordon due to back spasms.
