Memphis looks to stay perfect in Conference USA

Feb 14, 2009 - 11:30 AM No. 10 Memphis (21-3) at Southern Mississippi (13-10) 5:00 p.m. EST

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (Ticker) -- It appears as if No. 10 Memphis will once again have to wait until the NCAA Tournament to face some real competition.

The Tigers will be looking for their 52nd consecutive win over Conference USA opponents when they face Southern Mississippi on Saturday.

Memphis (21-3, 9-0 C-USA) has not lost in conference in three years, and a forgiving schedule down the stretch has it looking like the Tigers will remain unscathed for yet another season.

They are coming off a 63-37 demolition of Tulsa on Wednesday in which they held the Golden Hurricanes to 14-of-39 shooting and forced 24 turnovers. Robert Dozier led the offense with his best performance of the season, racking up 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting.

Southern Miss (13-10, 3-6) has dropped four straight and is coming off an 88-72 setback at Rice. The Golden Eagles got 23 points from R.L. Horton but could do nothing on the defensive end, allowing Rice to shoot 58 percent.

Four players average double figures for Southern Miss, led by Jeremy Wise's 16 points per game.
