Wake Forest aims to take rematch with Georgia Tech

Feb 18, 2009 - 11:25 AM Georgia Tech (10-14) at No. 8 Wake Forest (19-4) 7:30 p.m. EST

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Wake Forest is 4-0 against ranked teams but has suffered a couple of disappointing letdowns as well in conference play.

The No. 8 Demon Deacons (19-4, 6-4 ACC) will hope to avenge one of those losses Wednesday when they host Georgia Tech.

The last month has been full of ups and downs for a young Wake Forest team that is led by a pair of sophomores and a freshman. Wins over North Carolina, Duke and Clemson have been tempered by four conference defeats, most shockingly a road loss to the Yellow Jackets on January 31.

Freshman Al-Farouq Aminu had 17 points, 11 rebounds and five steals while sophomores Jeff Teague and James Johnson scored 16 and 13 respectively in a 76-74 loss at Georgia Tech (10-14, 1-10).

Gani Lawal collected 25 points and 10 rebounds and Lewis Clinch scored 19 in what is so far the Yellow Jackets' lone ACC win.

Wake Forest has lost four of seven since ascending to the top ranking in the country on January 17, but captured an 86-83 win over Florida State in its last contest on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets have been unable to build any momentum after their upset win last month, dropping their last four games, including an 86-65 setback Saturday against North Carolina State.

Wednesday's meeting begins a stretch of three straight contests against ranked foes, with dates against No. 13 Clemson and at third-ranked North Carolina to follow.

Lawal is averaging 15.4 points and 10.1 rebounds while Alade Aminu, the older brother to Al-Farouq Aminu, contributes 11.9 and 8.5 per game.
