Louisville eyes third straight win

Feb 21, 2009 - 1:49 PM No. 7 Louisville (20-5) at Cincinnati (17-9), 2:00 p.m. EST

CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Louisville has responded nicely after its most lopsided loss of the season.

The seventh-ranked Cardinals go for their third straight win when they visit Cincinnati on Saturday.

Louisville (20-5, 11-2 Big East) lost at Notre Dame, 90-57, on February 12 in a game that it looked uninterested in playing.

However, the Cardinals have topped the 90-point plateau in their two wins since, which includes a 94-76 triumph over Providence on Wednesday. Edgar Sosa led six players in double figures with 18 points as Louisville forced 22 turnovers in the win.

Louisville is in a three-way tie for second place in the Big East Conference - one-half game behind Connecticut (12-2) - but the contest is just as important for Cincinnati (17-9, 7-6).

The Bearcats, who are hoping to strengthen their NCAA Tournament resume, are just 1-5 against ranked teams this season.

Mike Williams scored 17 points as Cincinnati had its three-game winning streak snapped with an 85-69 setback at Pittsburgh last Saturday.

Deonta Vaughn leads the Bearcats in scoring at 15.7 points per game.
