Streaking LSU eyes eighth straight win

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- Louisiana State has emerged as the class of an otherwise mediocre Southeastern Conference.

The 24th-ranked Tigers look to make it eight straight wins when they host Auburn on Saturday.

LSU (22-4, 10-1 SEC) has a three-game lead over Mississippi State (7-4) in the SEC West and is the lone ranked team from the conference.

Marcus Thornton scored 28 points and Chris Johnson had 20 and 13 as LSU won its seventh straight game, a 72-69 triumph at Arkansas on Wednesday. Thornton is averaging 20.3 per contest.

Auburn (17-9, 6-5) has won four straight games and is coming off a 71-59 victory at Georgia on Wednesday. Auburn was up 45-19 at the break.

Tay Waller scored 20 points to lead Auburn in the win. DeWayne Reed is averaging a team-high 13.1 per contest.

The teams have split the series each of the last two seasons. They meet again at Auburn on March 7.
