Desperate for key win, Georgetown hosts Louisville

Feb 23, 2009 - 5:39 PM No. 6 Louisville (21-5) at Georgetown (14-11) 7:00 p.m. EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- With its NCAA tournament hopes dwindling, Georgetown is still in search of its first resume-building victory since its Big East opening win over Connecticut.

Losers of eight of their last 10, the Hoyas get one of their last chances Monday when they host No. 6 Louisville.

Ranked as high as eighth earlier this season, Georgetown (14-11, 5-9 Big East) started conference play with a road win at then-No. 2 UConn on December 29. It has been all downhill since, leaving the Hoyas clinging to postseason hopes.

The Hoyas are just 2-10 since their victory over the Huskies, going 1-6 against ranked teams. One of those losses came Saturday, a 78-72 setback against then-No. 11 Marquette.

Chris Wright scored 17 points and Austin Freeman added 16 for Georgetown, which currently sits tied with Seton Hall for 11th in the Big East standings.

Conversely, Louisville (21-5, 12-2) finds itself in a battle with three other teams for the Big East regular-season crown. The Cardinals join UConn, Pittsburgh and Marquette as two-loss teams in the loaded Big East with two weeks left in conference play.

Louisville has won three straight since a 33-point loss to Notre Dame on February 12, including a 72-63 win over Cincinnati on Saturday.

Terrence Williams led the Cardinals with 20 points while Earl Clark added 14 and nine rebounds.
