Florida State continues push toward NCAA Tournament

Feb 24, 2009 - 11:22 AM No. 25 Florida State (21-6) at Boston College (19-9) 9:00 pm. EST

CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Toney Douglas and No. 25 Florida State look to add to their NCAA Tournament resume Tuesday when they seek a third straight win against Boston College.

Led by the ACC Player of the Year contender, the Seminoles have jumped back into the ESPN/USA Today's Coaches' poll by winning two straight and five of their last six.

Douglas scored 22 points - including a go-ahead runner with six seconds left - lifting Florida State to a 67-65 win over Virginia Tech on Saturday.

The senior guard is second in the conference in scoring (20.5) behind North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough (21.0 ppg).

The Seminoles (21-6, 11-5 ACC) seem to be well on their way to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1998.

A win over Boston College would further solidify their resume. Despite not being ranked, the Eagles have wins over then-No. 1 North Carolina and then-No. 6 Duke.

The Eagles (19-9, 7-6) are coming off a 69-58 loss to Miami. Star guard Tyrese Rice was shutdown in the game, scoring just 11 points on 3-of-15 shooting. Rice is averaging a team-high 17.8 points.

In the last meeting, Douglas scored 20 points as the Seminoles rallied for a 66-63 win on February 23 of last season.
