Xavier looking to stay atop Atlantic-10

Feb 26, 2009 - 11:24 AM No. 22 Xavier (22-5) at Saint Joseph's (14-12), 7:00 p.m. EST

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Xavier's recent road contests have allowed the rest of the Atlantic-10 Conference to catch up to the Musketeers.

Saint Joseph's hopes to continue that trend when it hosts No. 22 Xavier on Thursday.

The Musketeers (22-5, 10-3 A-10) have dropped three straight games away from home, slowing their path toward a third straight regular-season conference title.

Xavier can't afford another mishap as Temple (9-3) and Rhode Island (10-4) are each one-half game back in the standings. Dayton (9-4) is one-game behind and visits Xavier on March 5.

Derrick Brown is averaging 13.7 points per game to lead the Musketeers, who won at George Washington, 71-53, on Sunday.

Saint Joseph's (14-12, 7-5) comes in on a season-high four-game losing streak. The Hawks were defeated by Massachusetts, 70-69, on Sunday.

Ahmad Nivins leads the A-10 in both scoring and rebounding at 19.5 points and 11.6 boards per game for the Hawks.
