Clemson, Florida State battling for ACC tourney bye

Feb 28, 2009 - 11:07 AM No. 13 Clemson (22-5) at No. 25 Florida State (21-7) 2:00 p.m. EST

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Ticker) -- Thirteenth-ranked Clemson and No. 25 Florida State meet on Saturday with the winner going a long way towards earning a bye in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

Clemson (22-5, 8-5 ACC) and Florida State (21-7, 8-5) are currently tied with 14th-ranked Wake Forest (21-5, 8-5) for third place in the ACC with the top four teams receiving byes in the ACC tournament.

A loss wouldn't eliminate the Tigers from a top-four finish with a season-finale meeting with Wake Forest looming, but after suffering an 80-77 upset by Virginia Tech on Wednesday, Clemson needs all the wins it can muster.

The Seminoles are also coming off a loss, dropping a 72-67 decision at Boston College on Tuesday.

Toney Douglas scored 19 points and Soloman Alabi had 16 points and seven rebounds for Florida State in the loss.
