UNC hopes to get back in win column

Feb 28, 2009 - 11:08 AM Georgia Tech (10-16) at No. 5 North Carolina (24-3), 12:00 p.m. EST

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Fifth-ranked North Carolina looks to defend first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference when it hosts Georgia Tech on Saturday.

The Tar Heels (24-3, 10-3 ACC) had their 10-game winning streak snapped last Saturday, falling at Maryland, 88-85, in overtime.

Ty Lawson scored 24 points to lead five players in double figures for North Carolina, which still leads Duke (9-4) by one game in the ACC. Tyler Hansbrough, who leads the team at 21 points per game, netted just 11 in the loss.

Georgia Tech (10-16, 1-12) should not be much of a threat as it comes in on a six-game losing streak.

The Yellow Jackets have been competitive in some of their setbacks, including last Sunday's 81-73 defeat to No. 13 Clemson.

Lewis Clinch scored 27 points in the loss for Georgia Tech, which has dropped eight straight road game. Gani Lawal leads the team at 15.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest.

North Carolina won the lone meeting, 83-82, last season.
