Pittsburgh looks to bounce back vs. Seton Hall

Feb 28, 2009 - 11:09 AM No. 1 Pittsburgh (25-3) at Seton Hall (15-12) 8:30 p.m. EST

SOUTH ORANGE, New Jersey (Ticker) -- No. 1 Pittsburgh will likely surrender its claim as the top team in the nation on Monday, but its run at a top seed in the NCAA Tournament is still viable.

The Panthers will be looking to bounce back from a rare loss when they face Seton Hall on Saturday.

Pittsburgh (25-3, 12-3 Big East) has reached the top of the polls twice this season, staying for two weeks in January and ascending again this week after taking out previous No. 1 Connecticut.

The Panthers could not defend their ranking in their first try this week, falling at Providence, 81-73, on Tuesday. Star forward DeJuan Blair, who averages 15.9 points and 12.8 rebounds, put up 17 and eight against the Friars but turned the ball over five times before fouling out in the final minute.

Pittsburgh finished with a season-high 18 turnovers against Providence.

Despite the setback, the Panthers can still earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament with a strong showing over the final week of the regular season and in the Big East Tournament.

Seton Hall (15-12, 6-9) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 75-60 win over South Florida on Wednesday but would seemingly need to with the Big East Tournament to have a shot at reaching the field of 65.

The Pirates finish the regular season at Louisville and Cincinnati and would need to win out to finish .500 in the conference.
