UCLA, California aim to stay in contention

BERKELEY, California (Ticker) -- UCLA looks to sweep the season series from California for the third straight season when the Pac-10 Conference rivals meet on Saturday.

The Bruins (21-7, 10-5 Pac-10) have won eight of the last nine meetings, including an 81-66 victory on January 29.

Josh Shipp scored 24 points and Alfred Aboya had 16 as UCLA posted a 76-71 triumph over Stanford on Thursday. It was just UCLA's second win in its last five games.

California (21-7, 10-5) further enhanced its NCAA Tournament resume with an 81-78 overtime victory over Southern California on Thursday.

Patrick Christopher scored a career-high 29 points for the Bears, who have won their last five home games. California has won five of six overall.

Both teams will be looking to stay in contention for the conference title as Washington holds a 1 1/2-game lead over each school. California swept the season series with Washington, while UCLA split the meetings.
