Texas hopes to continue winning ways at Oklahoma State

Feb 28, 2009 - 11:10 AM No. 24 Texas (19-8) at Oklahoma State (18-9) 6:00 p.m. EST

STILLWATER, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- After a three-game losing streak brought its NCAA Tournament candidacy into question, Texas has returned to its winning ways and solidified its potential spot in the process.

The Longhorns go for their fifth win in their last six games Saturday when they visit Oklahoma State.

The resurgence of guard A.J. Abrams has helped Texas (19-8, 8-5 Big 12) get back on track. After struggling for nearly two months, the senior is averaging 20.6 points in his last five while heating up from behind the arc.

Abrams is hitting 45 percent (26-of-58) from 3-point range in his last seven games to pull his percentage up to 40 for the season.

Texas is coming off an 87-81 win over Texas Tech on Wednesday. Abrams had 24 while Damion James recorded his fourth straight double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

The Cowboys (18-9, 7-6) have won four straight to bring themselves into the NCAA picture and a win over the Longhorns would surely boost their chances.

James Anderson, who averages 18.5 points per game to lead Oklahoma State, tied a season-high with six 3-pointers in a 30-point, 10-rebound performance as the Cowboys defeated Colorado, 76-55, on Wednesday.

In the previous meeting between these teams, a 99-74 win for Texas on February 10, Abrams led five Longhorns in double figures with 20 points to overcome a season-high 35 from Anderson.
