Marquette meets Louisville without G James

Mar 1, 2009 - 6:27 AM No. 10 Marquette (23-5) at No. 6 Louisville (22-5) 12:00 p.m. EST

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- The battle for the Big East is coming down to the wire and Marquette will have to carry on without one of its best players.

The 10th-ranked Golden Eagles look to improve their standing in the race for the regular-season conference title when they visit No. 6 Louisville on Sunday.

Marquette (23-5, 12-3 Big East) is 1 1/2 games behind second-ranked Connecticut (26-2, 14-2) in the Big East and one game back of the Cardinals (22-5, 13-2), who are alone in second place in the standings.

The Golden Eagles could have taken a big step towards the conference crown during their last game, but dropped a 93-82 decision to Connecticut, enduring their first setback at home this season.

The game wasn't the only loss for Marquette, which will be without Dominic James for the remainder of the season after the senior guard fractured his left foot early in the first half.

The loss of James is big for the Golden Eagles, as he was fourth on the team in scoring with 11.7 points. He also leads the team in assists (5.3) and steals (2.3).

Louisville is seeking its fifth straight win after closing a two-game road trip with a care-free 76-58 victory over Georgetown on Monday.
