Clemson hopes to halt skid, hosts Virginia

Mar 3, 2009 - 2:49 PM Virginia (9-16) at No. 19 Clemson (22-6), 7:00 p.m. EST

CLEMSON, South Carolina (Ticker) -- No. 19 Clemson hopes to avoid a season-high third straight loss when it hosts Virginia on Tuesday.

The Tigers (22-6, 8-6 ACC) are coming off consecutive losses to Virginia Tech and Florida State, which has dropped them into fifth place in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings. The top four teams get a bye in the conference tournament.

K.C. Rivers scored 17 points and Terrence Oglesby added 12 as Clemson fell at Florida State, 73-66, on Saturday.

Trevor Booker is averaging 15.2 points and 9.5 rebounds to pace the Tigers, who lost the first meeting with the Cavaliers, 85-81, in overtime on February 15.

Virginia (9-16, 3-11) has lost three straight games since that win, but has been competitive.

Calvin Baker scored 13 points as the Cavaliers gave then-No. 14 Wake Forest a test before losing, 70-60, on Saturday.

Virginia freshman Sylven Landesberg is averaging a team-high 17.4 points per game.
