Michigan State hopes to clinch Big Ten title

Mar 3, 2009 - 2:50 PM No. 8 Michigan State (23-5) at Indiana (6-22), 7:00 p.m. EST

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana (Ticker) -- Michigan State is one win away from claiming its first Big Ten Conference regular-season title since 2001. Indiana should not be much of an obstacle.

The eighth-ranked Spartans hope to wrap up the outright Big Ten crown when they visit the lowly Hoosiers on Tuesday.

Michigan State (23-5, 13-3 Big Ten) clinched a share of the conference title with a 74-66 victory at Illinois on Sunday.

Kalin Lucas scored 18 points and Raymar Morgan added 14 for the Spartans, who have won six of their last seven games. They lead Purdue (11-5) by two games with two to play in the Big Ten.

Indiana (6-22, 1-15) will try to play spoiler, but the Hoosiers have just one win in their last 19 games.

Devan Dumes and Verdell Jones III each scored 16 points as Indiana fell to Penn State, 61-58, on Saturday.

Dumes is averaging 13.1 points per game to lead the Hoosiers, who lost the first meeting with the Spartans, 75-47, on February 7.
