Washington steps out of conference vs. Seattle

Mar 3, 2009 - 3:21 PM Seattle (18-7) at No. 13 Washington (22-7), 11:00 p.m. EST

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Before it goes for its first outright Pac-10 regular-season title in over half a century, Washington steps out of conference to play in-state foe and Division I independent Seattle on Tuesday.

The Huskies (22-7) clinched at least a share of the crown by coming back from 10 points down in the second half to capture an 83-78 victory over Arizona on Saturday.

After the Wildcats took a 58-48 lead midway through the second half, Washington rallied with an 18-4 run and sank 10-of-12 free throws in the final three minutes to seal the win.

Freshman Isaiah Thomas and Jon Brockman scored 19 points each in Washington's third straight win and sixth in their last seven contests. Brockman, fellow senior Justin Dentmon and Thomas all average more than 15 points a game to pace the Huskies.

Unless UCLA loses to either Oregon State or Oregon this week, Washington will need to top in-state rival Washington State on Saturday to claim the Pac-10 title outright.

Seattle (18-7) has won 10 of 11, including an 87-85 win over South Dakota on Saturday thanks a 3-pointer by Mike Boxley with 12 seconds left.

Austen Powers, who leads the team with 13.3 points per game, led five players in double figures with 20 points.
