Louisville looks to keep Big East title hopes alive

Mar 4, 2009 - 11:18 AM Seton Hall (15-13) at No. 6 Louisville (23-5) 7:00 p.m. EST

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Louisville has its eye on some lofty goals as the regular season winds down.

The sixth-ranked Cardinals will be looking to stay in the race for a Big East regular-season championship while positioning themselves for a top seed in the NCAA Tournament when they face Seton Hall on Wednesday.

Louisville (23-5, 14-2 Big East) will move into a tie with Connecticut atop the Big East with a win over the Pirates. Because the Huskies won the lone matchup between the teams in the regular season, the Cardinals will need to win their final two games and have Connecticut lose at Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Winners of five straight and 15 of its last 17, Louisville is peaking at the right time - something NCAA Tournament organizers take into account when seeding the field.

The Cardinals have been winning with suffocating defense, limiting their opponents to an average of 61.4 points per game. They held Marquette to 58 points in a 62-58 win on Sunday.

Seton Hall (15-13, 6-10) boasts one of the most dynamic scorers in the conference in sophomore Jeremy Hazell, who is averaging 22.7 points per game, but has dropped four of five to fall off the bubble.

The Pirates allowed 53 second-half points en route to an 89-78 loss against Pittsburgh on Saturday.
