Kansas hopes second time is the charm

Mar 7, 2009 - 11:16 AM Texas (20-9) at No. 9 Kansas (24-6), 4:00 p.m. EST

LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- Kansas gets its second chance to lock up the outright Big 12 Conference title when it hosts Texas on Saturday.

The ninth-ranked Jayhawks (24-9, 13-2 Big 12) lead Missouri (12-3) and Oklahoma (12-3) by one game and have clinched at least a share of their fifth straight conference crown.

Kansas failed in its first opportunity to claim the outright title, suffering a surprising 84-65 setback at Texas Tech on Wednesday. It was just the Red Raiders' third conference win of the campaign.

Sherron Collins, who leads the team at 18.3 points per game, scored 11 on 3-of-19 shooting in the loss, which was Kansas' most lopsided of the season.

Texas (20-9, 9-6) has won three of its past four games, including a 73-57 triumph over Baylor on Monday. Dexter Pittman scored 16 points and Justin Mason and A.J. Abrams each had 14 in the win.
