Marquette hopes to stop slide

Mar 7, 2009 - 11:17 AM No. 25 Syracuse (22-8) at No. 15 Marquette (23-7), 2:00 p.m. EST

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Marquette hopes to go into the Big East Conference tournament with some momentum when it hosts No. 25 Syracuse on Saturday.

The 15th-ranked Golden Eagles (23-7, 12-5 Big East) have lost three straight games since point guard Dominic James suffered a broken foot that will sideline him for the rest of the season. The three losses have come against Connecticut, Louisville and Pittsburgh - the conference's top three teams.

Jerel McNeal scored 23 points and Lazar Hayward had 22 as Marquette suffered a 90-75 setback to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Locked into the fifth spot in next week's conference tournament, the Golden Eagles are hoping to get back on track against Syracuse (22-8, 10-7), which has won three straight.

Paul Harris scored 18 points and Andy Rautins had 11 as the Orange routed Rutgers, 70-40, on Tuesday.
