Kansas looking for fourth straight Big 12 tourney title

Mar 12, 2009 - 12:35 PM Baylor (17-13) vs. (11) Kansas (25-6) 12:30 p.m. EDT

OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) -- Kansas begins its quest for a fourth consecutive Big 12 tournament title on Thursday, as it takes on Baylor in a first-round matinee.

The 11th-ranked Jayhawks are not only the reigning national champs, but have also claimed the Big 12 Conference three years running. As the top seed this time around, they are once again favored to take the title.

In order to do so, they'll have to get past the ninth-seeded Bears, who upended Nebraska on Wednesday - just their third win in their last 13 contests. Baylor dominated on the glass, holding a 41-17 rebounding edge, and held the Cornhuskers to just 31.5 percent shooting (17-of-54) en route to a 65-49 triumph.

Kansas won the only previous meetings between the teams, a February 2 showdown at Baylor. Sherron Collins recorded 17 points and six assists in the 75-65 win.
