Wilson helps Wichita State remain unbeaten

Dec 10, 2006 - 1:29 AM CASPER, Wyoming (Ticker) -- Kyle Wilson and Wichita State continued to have all the answers in tough road games.

Wilson scored 19 points and Matt Braeuer had 18 as the No. 16 Shockers used a late rally to capture an 83-69 victory over Wyoming.

Holding their highest ranking in 25 years, Wichita State (7-0) improved to 4-0 on the road against a host of superb opponents. Already beating a pair of last season's Final Four teams in George Mason and Louisiana State, the Shockers held off a late rally by then-No. 14 Syracuse for a 64-61 win last Saturday.

Wichita State, which had a seven-point lead at the half, found itself facing another rally by a host opponent, falling behind, 51-50, on a layup by Brad Jones with 10:37 to play. It was the first lead for Wyoming since 2-0 in the opening minute.

Proving to be one of the top teams in the country, Wichita State bounced right back, with Wilson scoring inside to ignite a 6-0 run.

After Jones converted two free throws to make it 56-53, Phillip Thomasson had a turnaround jumper and Wilson sank a 3-pointer at the start of a 9-0 spurt that gave the Shockers a 65-53 lead with 6:55 to play.

Karon Bradley scored 14 points and P.J. Couisnard added 11 for Wichita State, which shot 49 percent (26-of-53), including 7-of-15 on 3-pointers, as it handed the Cowboys their first home loss in six games.

Brandon Ewing, the top scorer in the Mountain West Conference, had 29 points and Jones added 17 for Wyoming (7-2), which was outscored, 46-39, in the second half.

The Cowboys entered the contest averaging 45.5 points after intermission, compared to 36 by their opponents.

Jones did commit seven of the 22 turnovers for Wyoming, which has not beaten a ranked opponent since defeating Gonzaga in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in 2002.
