James Madison upsets No. 14 Virginia 75-73
Dec 7, 2009 - 12:29 AM CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.(AP) -- Dawn Evans matched her career high with 38 points and James Madison beat No. 14 Virginia 75-73 on SundayEvans, a junior guard, scored 18 points in the second half, including a jumper in the lane that banked in with 52 seconds left to give the Dukes (6-0) a 75-71 lead.
The Cavaliers (6-2) answered as Paulisha Kellum hit a left-handed layup with 43.1 seconds remaining. They had a chance to tie the game after forcing Evans to turn the ball over with 16 seconds left, but China Crosby missed a driving attempt with 5 seconds left.
Evans 38-point performance, which is 14 points above her average, set a John Paul Jones Arena scoring record.
Monica Wright paced the Cavaliers with 31 points and 16 rebounds, but struggled from the field connecting on 12 of 32 attempts.
