Stevenson leads Oklahoma over Texas 75-60

AUSTIN, Texas(AP) -- The Big 12 regular-season title has already been won by someone else. That won't stop the Oklahoma Sooners from aiming for a trophy of their own.

And they way they dismantled a big rival on the road, don't count them out when the league tournament starts.

Nyeshia Stevenson made six 3-pointers on her way to 28 points as No. 11 Oklahoma coasted past No. 14 Texas 75-60 on Saturday, avenging a 75-57 loss to the Longhorns earlier this season.

The Sooners, winners of three of the previous four league titles, gave way to Nebraska this year. Coach Sherri Coale said her players are eyeing a run at the tournament title in two weeks.

"Nebraska has one trophy. We want to get ours," Coale said. "What you do in March is what you remember the rest of your life."

Texas would like to forget this loss and the way Stevenson lit them up from long range. Her 3-pointers keyed the big runs in each half that put the game away.

The Sooners used a 19-2 run in the first half to build a big lead, then a 10-0 run at the start of the second. Stevenson made two 3-pointers in the second-half burst that put the Sooners up by 20.

"We had fun out there. We knew it was a win we needed to get," said Oklahoma guard Danielle Robinson, who had 16 points and seven assists.

Amanda Thompson added 13 points and 16 rebounds for Oklahoma (20-8, 10-4 Big 12). Oklahoma scored 31 points off 19 Texas turnovers and held the Longhorns to 31 percent shooting, including 3 of 15 on 3-pointers.

Kathleen Nash scored 12 points for Texas (19-9, 8-6), which has dropped three straight games after a six-game win streak.

Stevenson, who had only five points in the first game against Texas, scored 16 in the first half. Her fourth 3-pointer put the Sooners ahead up 26-11 late in the first half. Texas went scoreless for nearly seven minutes but still managed to pull back within 33-23 by halftime.

The Longhorns figured they were back in the game until Stevenson got them again.

Texas turned the ball over in the opening seconds of the second half and Stevenson made her fifth 3-pointer. Robinson had an easy drive to the basket and Abi Olajuwon hit a nifty left-handed hook.

Exasperated, Texas coach Gail Goestenkors replaced her entire lineup, only to watch Stevenson make yet another 3-pointer on the first possession back from the timeout.

"I'm not going to let people play who don't have the right attitude and energy about the game," Goestenkors said. "Then OU made another run of their own."

Even when the Texas starters began trickling back in, the Sooners kept pushing their lead.

Robinson dribbled through the defense before kicking out to Stevenson for a mid-range jumper. When Joanna McFarland bulled through the paint for a layup, Oklahoma led 58-33 with 12 minutes left.

Oklahoma led 66-43 before the Longhorns finally mounted a rally. Brittainey Raven and Nash both hit 3-pointers and a steal and layup by Ashleigh Fontenette in a 10-0 Texas run cut the lead in half with six minutes to play.

But Texas missed three consecutive layups before Robinson made a long jumper. A Texas turnover and bounce pass from Robinson to Thompson for an easy backside layup put Oklahoma back up by 17.

"I think it's huge for your confidence when you can go on the road and get a win like that, shoot the way we did," Coale said.
