No. 3 Duke holds off Virginia Tech

Jan 19, 2014 - 7:47 PM Blacksburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tricia Liston scored 22 points and pulled down six rebounds as third-ranked Duke slipped past Virginia Tech, 74-70.

Alexis Jones scored 19 points with six assists, while Haley Peters had 11 points and eight boards for the Blue Devils (18-1, 5-0 ACC), who have won eight straight since their only loss of the season to Connecticut on Dec. 17.

Uju Ugoka had a game-high 29 points and 11 rebounds for the Hokies (10-7, 0-4), who have dropped their past five games. Vanessa Panousis gave 21 points thanks to 5-of-8 shooting from 3-point range.

Duke held a 15-point lead entering the second half, but Virginia Tech twice chipped that deficit to three points, and trailed by five points with 2:20 to play after Monet Tellier made a free throw for a 65-60 game.

Richa Jackson, though, countered with a 3-pointer and, after misses at both ends, Ka'lia Johnson hit a pair of free throws with 47 seconds to play to put the game out of reach.

Duke shot 10-for-15 from 3-point range, and 26-for-49 overall.
