No. 7 Gamecocks rout Rebels
Jan 31, 2014 - 4:02 AM Columbia, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Alaina Coates led six South Carolina scorers in double figures with 24 points as the seventh-ranked Gamecocks dominated Ole Miss for a 99-70 victory on Thursday.Tiffany Mitchell scored 15 with eight assists and Elem Ibiam had 14 points, eight rebounds and five blocks for South Carolina (19-2, 7-1 SEC), which has won 10 of its last 11. Coates added 12 rebounds to her line coming off the bench.
Aleighsa Welch, Khadijah Sessions and Tiffany Davis all added 11 points in the victory.
Valencia McFarland netted 24 and Tia Faleru added 19 points and eight rebounds for the Rebels (10-12, 1-7), who have lost seven of their last eight.
South Carolina led 21-12 but Ole Miss went on a 12-4 surge to pull within one. The Gamecocks closed out the first half with a 19-1 tear and carried a 44-25 advantage at halftime.
The teams traded baskets through the first six minutes of the second half before South Carolina used a 15-5 run to stretch its lead to 27 with 9:13 left on the clock.
Ole Miss didn't come closer than 24 points the rest of the way.
