Huskies cruise past Hawks in second round

Mar 26, 2014 - 1:17 AM Storrs, CT ( - Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis tallied a triple- double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the top-seeded UConn Huskies easily over the ninth-seeded St. Joseph's Hawks, 91-52, in the NCAA Tournament's second round at Gampel Pavilion.

Breanna Stewart led the team in scoring with 21 points in the win, adding 11 rebounds and five blocked shots for UConn (36-0), which remains perfect on the year and will face BYU in the Sweet 16 on Saturday. Bria Hartley chipped in 20 points, Stefanie Dolson added 17 and Moriah Jefferson contributed 11 points in the lopsided win.

Sarah Fairbanks and Erin Shields each netted 12 points to pace the Hawks (23-10), while Natasha Cloud and Ilze Gotfrida notched 10 points apiece in the defeat.

From the opening tip, the game belonged to UConn. The Huskies came out and shot 55.9 percent from the floor in the frame, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range, to take a 50-26 lead at the intermission. St. Joseph's hit just 29.4 percent of its tries in the half.

The second period didn't get any easier for the Hawks, who improved their shooting accuracy to 41.4 percent, but still allowed the Huskies to connect on 55.2 percent of their field goal tries.

UConn had the edge from the free-throw line, 11-2, and doubled up St. Joseph's in rebounding, 46-23.
